We are having this election at time the people of this country are pressed with burning problems said former Leader of the Opposition Mahinda Rajapakse at an election rally held at Nivitigala, Ratnapura district. This meeting was organised by former MP for Ratnapura district, Premalal Jayasekara to support the Alliance candidates for Ratnapura district. We are ready to implement our policies from April 3, following our victory at the election. After the General Election of April 2 the new government of the Freedom Alliance will launch a meaningful programme to make rural women actively participate in the economic development process. During the PA regime in spite of the minus rate of economic growth we continued to sustain the Samurdhi Relief without slashing it said Rajapaksa. He said the UNF which failed to fulfil promises to the people throughout the two years has no more promises. Ratnapura district Alliance candidate and former Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said the UNF had to undergo many hardships within the past two years. The cost of living has skyrocketed, bribery corruption and lawlessness was increased. All subsidies provided by the previous government were curtailed. Ratnapura district Freedom Alliance leader and former Minister W. D. J. Seneviratna said UNF government has failed to develop the country economically, nor has it relieved the woes of the masses. |
