by Chamikara Weerasinghe The Chairman of National Water Supply and Drainage Board, V. Sathyananthan yesterday said the Board had taken steps to maintain its water supply to the public without interruptions, despite the existing drought conditions in the country. Sathyananthan was speaking at a press conference at the Board's headquarters in Ratmalana. Senior officials of the Board were also present. He, however, solicited co-operation of the public to co-ordinate with the Water Board to conserve water by not over-using or by wasting. He said that rumours have been spread that the Water Board was going to impose water cuts on public supply. "But there will be no water cuts as uninterrupted supplies will be in place by the Board," he said. "We have arranged to continue uninterrupted supplies, especially to the Greater Colombo area, until the drought ended at least by mid next month (April, 2004)," the Chairman said adding that the Meteorological Department had informed them that there would be rains after by that period. |
