International certificates for Glasgow Estate

Glasgow Estate, Agarapatana ("Agra Ouvah"), owned by Agarapatana Plantations Ltd managed by Lankem Tea and Rubber Plantations (Pvt) Ltd., pursued a program of "Quality Management Systems" and were awarded the ISO 9002: 1994 certification in 2002.

To further upgrade its tea factory to the latest ISO 9001:2000 specifications and HACCP: 2002 certification, intensive training programs were done.

M/s. Bureau Veritas Quality International (BVQI) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Bureau Veritas, a France based multinational organisation operating in 140 countries.

BVQI is one of the leading certification bodies for management systems of Quality, Environment, occupational, health and safety and food safety.

The standards enforced at Glasgow, ensured the maintenance of hygienic conditions, in a disciplined performance of duty and enhanced overall knowledge of the staff and workers.

P. K. Ekanayake, the Manager of Glasgow Estate ensured the results obtained were good.

The Auditors of the BVQI recommended the issue of certificates of approval.

Institute of Bankers goes international

The Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka (IBSL) will capture the International Market share in the field of Banking, Finance and Education shortly by participating in the Eduvision 2004 Career and Higher Education Fair which ends today in Dharubaaruge, Male Maldives.

IBSL being the only institution in Sri Lanka authorised to offer Banking and Finance Qualifications accredited with the Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIB) London, offers internationally recognised qualifications in Banking and Finance.

The Secretary General IBSL H.M.S.R. Ellepola said that the Eduvision will be an ideal opportunity to promote IBSL's professional examinations in Banking and Finance and the certificate courses in IT for students in a neighbouring country.

"Arrangements are now being made to meet the Maldivian Education Minister, Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority, Chief Executives of the Banks and Financial Institutions in Maldives in this regard, Ellepola said. - (RK)

Motor traders launch website

The Ceylon Motor Traders' Association (CMTA) ventured into e-commerce with the launch of a website. The new initiative by the organisation is expected to enhance the vital link between the association and a wider community. The launch took place at the Taj Samudra Hotel recently.

Chairman of the Ceylon Motor Traders Association, Ajith Algama said that the website would gain recognition for CMTA locally and internationally as the premier organisation representing the motor trade in Sri Lanka and create awareness among the public.

Algama said that they are deliberating to set up emissions checking stations in the main cities and exploring possibilities of importing equipment for the project.

The CMTA was formed in 1919 under the aegis of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce to promote and foster business interests of the motor vehicle franchise holders in Sri Lanka. (SP)
