Alleged abuse condemned

The State Combined Services General Workers' Union has vehemently condemned the alleged abuse and harassment caused to the newly appointed Secretary of the Agriculture and Livestock Ministry P. Weerahennadi by Minister S. B. Dissanayake and requested the President and Prime Minister to take stringent action against it.

The union in a press release yesterday, said this is not the first time UNP Ministers have threatened, insulted and even assaulted officers in various grades of the public service.

The release signed by Union General Secretary R. G. Dharmapala, said Weerahennadi is a very senior SLAS officer and the alleged insult caused to him should be condemned with abhorrence.

The general election on April 2 is a fine opportunity for Sri Lankan citizens to elect a new administration which could defeat UNP political thuggery and change this unfortunate situation. It is the duty of all public servants and the intelligent voting public to instal a new government which would enable public servants to engage in their duties in a free and independent manner.
