Kosgoda Beach Resort :

making fresh overtures under a new management

by Prasad Abu Bakr

Spread out within a wide acreage, harboured between the lagoon and the sea on the Colombo/Galle highway, Kosgoda Beach Resort which has revived itself from a deep slumber during the recent past has come under the management prowess of Templetree International Hotels and Resorts [Pvt] Limited, a new force in the international market.

The hotel which is celebrating twenty years in business under it's proprietor Arujuna Dias of Miramar Beach Hotels has placed his confidence in the potential that the property has to offer.

Set within beautiful and discreet settings, the resort that consist of 50 villas, located against picturesque views, has always sprung up as a favourite place to unwind specially over the weekends.

It has all the attributes that goes in to the making of an ideal holiday resort. being isolated from clusters of other similar resorts is its major plus-point. The privacy it guarantees is an immediate feeling one can sense on arrival.

Silent, calm and elegant surroundings all vouch for this. these attributions have made this unique resort a popular place where holiday makers would love to visit again. Just a hop, step and a jump from Galle Road in Kosgoda and you are in the vicinity of the resort.. with its large lily pond nestling under a grove of palm trees and frangipane blooming in mixed shades of colour patronised by a number of Ducks and Swans languishing lazily around the pond are another attraction.

Stepping into the large foyer it is instantly evident that the building has many features attributed to classical local architecture. The vast `Medha-midula' with its central patio leading to the lobby overlooking the vast lawn with its view of the beach is a fine example of this.

The many white pillars surrounding the central courtyard which are lit-up at night by many clay oil lamps give the entire location a resemblance of a place of meditation amidst luscious village surroundings. The lobby area with its large sofas, wooden and cane chairs invite you to sit through with a long refreshing drink, with its `Sinhalese tiled' roof edged with wooden trelice work brings out yet another aspect of local design.

The corridor to the left from the lobby will lead one to the `Kalapuwa Restaurant' which serves an authentic local menu besides excellent western cuisine. Overhead is the air conditioned bar which gives one an excellent view of both the lagoon and the wide blue sea.

Equipped with a pool table it serves as a television lounge too. Both the restaurant and the bar are located ideally in close quarters to the `stylised' swimming pool. Built in a curved shape the pool which starts off shallow at the beach end curves up to a deep end towards the restaurant.

The large and sprawling lawn surrounding the pool is an attraction that Kosgoda Beach Resort has to offer in comparison to some of its competitors of the vicinity. Most hotel properties down South are totally invaded up by sea erosion leaving them with a minimal strip of beach leave alone lawn area.

With a choicest of opportunities that the resort has on offer holiday makers can look forward to services of up market professionalism under the wide based marketing skills of its new management Templetree International Hotels and Resorts [Pvt] Limited.
