Film and teledrama director Asoka Handagama responding to recent media reports that his wife Anoma Janadari had joined the UNP and obtained party membership, said he wished to explain his own political stand to prevent any confusion caused in the minds of his fans and friends by this report. Handagama in a press release yesterday, said already many people had questioned him about his stand on his wife joining a political party. He wished to state that their marriage had not deprived his wife's democratic right to subscribe to a political view different to him. Handagama said he has clearly expressed his knowledge and views about Sri Lankan politics and its application through his artistic creations. Anyone who studies them carefully will understand his distaste for the activities of political parties in Sri Lanka. This is one reason why he has never joined any artistes groups or unions formed during election times. Those who read his politics through his creations should be careful not to assess the politics of their actors and actresses in the same vein. They should understand that actress Anoma Janadari is his integral unit in their professional life. |
