Nayaka Thera cremated amidst large gathering Kegalle special correspondent Thousands of people from all walks of life on March 22 joined the funeral procession of late Venerable Thambugala Sri Soratha Thera, the chief incumbent of Wewaladeniya Vihara in Kegalle town. The remains of the late Venerable Thambugala Soratha Thera was cremated at Kegalle public esplanade amidst a large gathering. The late Thera was the Chief Sangha Nayake of Pahata Bulathgama, three korales and the four korales of the Kegalle district. He was eighty seven years old. Many thousands of Buddhists and dignitaries of all religious denominations visited the Wewaladeniya Vihara to pay their homage and respect to the remains of the Nayaka Thera. Politicians forgetting their political differences assembled to pay homage to the Nayaka Thera who devoted over sixty seven years of his life of 87 years in the propagation of the "Buddha Dhamma" for the good and welfare of all. The Diyawadana Nilame of Kandy, Neranjan Wijeyeratne delivered a long funeral oration reminding the gathering of the late Venerable Sri Soratha Thera's social activities performed along with the national leaders of all political hues in the last fifty years. |
