20 schools vie for honours at Golden Key Tourney Twenty Schools will lock horns for honours at the Golden Key Privilege Card Kings Cup All Island Schools Rugby Sevens organised by the Golden Key Credit Card Company Limited in collaboration with the schools Rugby Association which is to be staged at Nittawela, Kandy on April 24 and 25. It was revealed by the Assistant General Manager (Credit Card Division) of the Golden Key Credit Card Company Limited, Oville Pereira that this was the third year that this Establishment had organised and sponsored a sporting event in the Central province. In 2002 the Golden Key organised a six-a-side cricket tournament and it proved to be a big success with 40 teams participating and in 2003, Golden Key organised the INAUGURAL rugby seven-a-side tournament at Nittawela only for the schools at Central Province, and twelve schools participated, which turned out to be an immense success. As this tournament was hailed as the best of its kind held in Central Province the Golden Key have decided to organise an All Island schools rugby sevens with last years winners' Kingswood College to celebrate the Centenary of their OBU. The twenty teams which will participate are: Kingswood, Trinity, St. Peter's, D.S. Senanayaka College, St. Anthony's College, Dharmaraja, Isipatana Maha Vidyalaya, Wesley College, Vidyaratha, Maliyadeva Kurunegala, Ananda College, Royal College Colombo 7, St. Thomas Mount Lavinia, St. Sylvester's, Rahula M/V Matara, Thurstan College Colombo, Nalanda College Colombo 10, St. Joseph's College Colombo, Zahira College Colombo and Matale combined. Apart from the above boys teams two ladies teams also will lock horns one team from Central Province and one team from Anuradhapura. This year the cash awards for the winners are also increased as follows: The winners Cup Championship will receive Rs. 50,000/-, Plate Rs. 25,000/-, Bowl Rs. 15,000/-, while the winners of the women's game will be awarded Rs. 10,000/- and runners up Rs. 5,000/-. The participants will be provided accommodation by the Kingswood OBU with the blessings of R. Chandrasekara, President Sri Lanka Schools R.F.A. The draw for the tournament will be held at Kingswood College Kandy on the 16th of April. |
