Hakeem's supporters allegedly attack reporter

Veerakesari correspondent, M.S. Jaufer was assaulted with an iron bar and a cricket bat by alleged supporters of Minister Rauff Hakeem.

The thugs had allegedly come in vehicles belonging to the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, sources said.

The victim is warded at Sainthamaruthu Ashraff Memorial Hospital after he lodged an entry at Akkaraipattu Police.

Akkaraipattu Police is investigating. Meanwhile, eight persons including an Independent candidate were injured during clashes between Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) and National Muslim Congress (NMC) supporters in Palamunai, while NMC supporters were returning home after participating at a meeting in support of the UPFA.

Violence erupted after the SLMC supporters hurled stones at the vehicles used by NMC supporters. Police rushed to the scene and fired shots in the air to control the situation.

Three vehicles were damaged.
