Freedom Alliance claims : 13,000 deprived of voting in Jaffna, PPD

The United Peoples Freedom Alliance yesterday alleged that the United National Front was trying to confuse postal voting that begins today in a conspiratorial manner.

The Media Unit of the UPFA alleged that the attempt to prevent the distribution of postal ballots was the first stage of the UNF conspiracy as certain areas have yet not received postal ballots.

The UPFA had learnt that of the 20,000 postal votes required for Jaffna and Point Pedro, only 7,000 had been sent thus depriving 13,000 state employees and Armed Forces personnel from casting their votes. The Alliance has drawn the attention of the Commissioner of Elections towards this important matter.

The Alliance has also detected a plan by some officials affiliated to the UNP where attempts are to be made to declare the postal votes of officers engaged on election duty null and void ."Citing differences on postal vote application and the electoral registers, postal votes of thousand of state employees have already been rejected",a media release from the Freedom Alliance Media Unit claimed.
