ICS completes third Diploma course

The Institute of Commercial Studies (ICS) has completed their third batch of Shipping, International Trade and Logistics Diploma course held last year.

Candidates who obtained above 55% at the final examinations are awarded the Diploma at a ceremony held at the Chamber of Commerce Auditorium recently under the patronage of Ms. Teresa Manlowe, Head of the Commercial, Div. of US Embassy.

Parakrama Dissanayake, Chairman SLPA and Nivard Cabraal delivered the key note address.

D. P. Udugamasooriya of Hayleys Exports Ltd. Madampe Branch won the T. C. M. de Silva Memorial Award presented to the best Overall Student.

Hemantha Wickremasinghe, the Course Director said that the objectives of the ICS is to advance knowledge to make a better society and inculcate Professional Ethics to students so that Industry will prosper.

Institute is calling applications for the next batch of students in the Shipping/Freight Forwarding/Logistics and Exports/Import Trade and hope to commence the course on April 25.

The Diploma Course conducted by Commercial Studies are validated by the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers London thereby stamping the quality of International standing. More details could be obtained from [email protected].

Specialized examination tutor/Senior Lecturer in Shipping Business Alan Humpries Port Agency and Introduction to Shipping from London will conduct chartered Examination course along with the local tutors on the March 27 and 28.

The, course on the March 27 and 28 is to prepare the students for the April Institute examinations in response to the increasing demand, the ICS Sri Lanka Branch is offering a weekend revision.

The aim is to pull together and consolidate the revision processes.

ICS Sri Lanka is investing heavily on Education and development Anoma Ranasinghe, Education Officer of ICS SL to Warick University is to participate and get a first hand experience on how the Prep Course is being conducted in UK and to do a better job in conducting Prep Revision course in end March at Colombo.

The ICS Examinations are held annually in April and ICS qualification is the highest in the field of Shipping and Freight Forwarding which is equivalent to a 2nd Class Honours Degree in UK.
