R. M. Niyas "Under a United People's Freedom Alliance Government all measures would be taken to find a permanent solution to the shortage of water in the Hambantota district and an alternative supply of water to the Lunugamvehera reservoir will be amalgamated to enable the farmers to cultivate their lands under Lunugamvehera scheme," said former MP for the Hambantota district and UPFA candidate for the Hambantota district Mahinda Amaraweera. He made these observations participating in a series of propaganda meetings held in the Ambalantota area, recently. He said, it is pointless to provide water using water tankers as a solution to the drought. We have to find a permanent solution to this. Therefore it is important to make use of water sources. The President has focussed her special attention in this regard. Under this a program has been implemented with the assistance of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). During the UNF regime farmers were a neglected lot. They were not given agricultural loans. But the UNP government provided loan amnesty for multi-millionaire businessmen taking away the fertilizer subsidy of the innocent farmers, Amaraweera said. |
