He was addressing supporters at an NSF propaganda meeting held at Thibbotuwawa 'Praja-Sala', Eheliyagoda. Nanayakkara pointed out that President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, at present seemed using her executive powers so as to suppress the democratic right of the people and she was surrounded by groups of extremists etc. Though UNP and PA with the participation of the other peace-loving political parities could unitedly carry on the peace process further, they neglected it due to power hunger, he said. Nanayakkara reminded though JVPers earlier condemned UNP and PA by saying 'unuth ekai, munuth ekai', they had sacrificed the youth generation to so-called 'Sandanaya' in order to get ministerial posts. He said the country today needs an alternative leadership that has a sensitive mind to understand the heart-beat of the common man. It should be the duty of the common voters today to choose a leadership that can overpower the two major political powers and to safeguard democracy, economic freedom and peace in the nation. In conclusion, Nanayakkara reminded that though he tried his best to direct the PA government along the correct path as a PA supporter, he was unable to do so and sat in the opposition. |
