Alaiyadivembu group correspondent

It is well-known to all that during the regime of the UNF a large number of Tamil speaking people of the North-East were murdered and victimised and most of their valuable properties and belongings had been damaged and destroyed.

Innocent Muslims who had been in Mosques, houses and paddy fields were shot dead by the LTTE cadres, said the former Minister of Highways and the National Leader of National Muslim Congress A. L. M. Athaullah at the Pocket Meeting held recently in Nintavur at the residence of the of the Ex-Vice Chairman of the Pradeshiya Sabha with the participation of the Members of Central Committee of National Muslim Congress and the distinguished persons of the area.

Speaking further Athaullah said in politics it is a normal feature that politicians involve in some irregularities. But the genuine minded politician should firmly resolve to be honest. This is a very important election specifically for Digamadulla District in the history of Sri Lanka. We are confident of our victory under the able leadership of the President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga.

M. I. Ahamed, the former Chairman of Nintavur Pradeshiya Sabha and the Deputy Leader of Ampara District Executive Committee of National Muslim Congress presided. Athaullah continuing said that it's time for the Muslim intellectuals of the area to educate and guide the ordinary people as to how they should act at this hour of need in order to support the UPFA with the view to win the rights of the Muslim community.
