The present government has devastated the country's entire economy during their two-year period of misrule, said Mangala Samaraweera former minister and the leader of group of candidates of the Freedom Alliance for the district of Matara. He was addressing a UPFA election propaganda rally at Kirinda, Puhulwella recently. UNP came to power giving false pledges to the people and neglected the economic welfare of the nation. Relief benefits like Samurdhi have now been taken away and thousands of innocent poor families in this country are in great economic hardship as a result, he said. The cost of all consumer items is going up daily. This situation has been an unbearable burden on the poor. Although the UNP administration is boasting as if they have done a great deal of development in the country nothing has been done by them for the common good of the people, Mangala Samaraweera said. Constructive economic plans have already been prepared by the UPFA to address the burning issues like high cost of living and unemployment in the country, people in their thousands currently throng around the UPFA. It is crystal clear that the new Alliance under the efficient leadership of President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga will emerge victorious at this general election, he predicted. Ranjan Wijewardana, UPFA candidate for the district of Matara said that the endeavour of the UPFA will be to form a corruption free and people friendly government. |
