Let us take this as a holy war to attain the political aspirations of Tamils - N. Srikantha

Jaffna special correspondent

"The overwhelming support given to the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) by the Tamil voters at the last general election was an endorsement that the LTTE is the sole representative of the Tamils.

It is also a clear testimony to the international community of the solidarity of the Tamils behind the LTTE.

Whoever forms the next government has to embrace the LTTE into their fold to rule this country amicably," said N. Srikantha ex-MP and political advisor to TELO and the TNA candidate for the islands division (Kayts).

He was speaking at an election propaganda meeting held at Karainagar in support of his candidature.

Srikantha further said the forthcoming general election is a sequel to rivalry between the leaders of the major political parties to entrench themselves in power. We of the TNA stand for the self-determination of the Tamils, preservation of our traditional homeland and for one flag under one leader.

He said that the people of Karainagar had been a decisive factor in determining the winner in the parliamentary elections held at the Vaddukoddai constituency. It was the block votes of the people of Karainagar that made Amirthalingham to win the Vaddukoddai seat with comfortable majority in 1965.

It was the same voters who installed late Thiagarajah in the Vaddukoddai seat ousting the then leader of the Opposition Amirthalingham.

Again in the last election the voters of Karainagar by their block votes enabled Makeswaran to become a Member of Parliament as he is a son of Karainagar soil."I am also a son of Karainagar soil and the people of Karainagar should ensure a sure victory for me this time.

Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam, Mavai Senathirajah, Mrs. Sithamparanathan and M. K. Sivalingam ex-MP also spoke.

In another election meeting held at Vaddukoddai Central College Srikantha said that the forthcoming election is not just an election to choose candidates to adorn the suffix MP after their names.

This is an election to pave the path for the Tamils to live in this land with honour and dignity. Let us take this as a Holy War to attain the political aspirations of the Tamils.

He added that the ethnic problem should be resolved after the election.

We have come to the 'last post' of our journey and the final victory is ours.
