Mahinda condemns attack on Hela Urumaya activists

Former Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapakse in a press release yesterday condemned the attack on some Hela Urumaya activists at Bandaragama at midnight on March 11 and requested the authorities concerned to bring to book the culprits, after careful investigations.

In the course of the attack 15 persons including three Buddhist monks have been injured and four of them very seriously injured had to be warded for treatment.

One of the seriously injured persons is now under treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of the National Hospital, Colombo.

According to media reports, a few UNP supporters have been taken into police custody in this connection.

This is a serious trend which endangers the democratic rights of the people. May all with attention and patience cooperate to identify the offenders and mete out justice, stated the former Opposition Leader's media announcement.
