At present the Government is attempting to create a crisis situation in the electricity sector and also sabotage the activities in the state sector to put the Freedom Alliance into a crisis once it comes to power, he told a press conference in Colombo yesterday. He requested the public not to be misled by these conspiracies and urged the Security Forces to take all possible remedial measures to prevent such a situation. According to him, the UNP has launched yet another conspiracy- that of assaulting Buddhist monks contesting the General Election from the Hela Urumaya while placing the blame on the JVP. In addition, the UNP members disguised as JVPers were distributing various documents in the rural areas. The UNP which assaulted Buddhist monks at Bandaragama passed on the blame to the JVP, he said. Weerawansa said the latest conspiracy of the UNP was to send people in three wheelers to attack Buddhist monks of the Hela Urumaya and then produce themselves at the Police saying they were acting on the instructions of the JVP. "Therefore, we urge the Buddhist monks and Security Forces to focus their main attention on this conspiracy," he said. Commenting on a recent statement made by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe that the UNP will defeat the Freedom Alliance forever, Weerawansa said this is a serious statement on the part of the Prime Minister. This is because, one can be defeated forever only through death." We urge the Security Forces and the public to pay attention to this serious statement," he said. |
