COLOMBO, Monday (AFP) A top Sri Lankan magician has been arrested on charges of sexually abusing young boys, including his own assistant, the government's child protection agency here said Monday. The man, who conducts several television programs, was arrested in the company of two boys aged 15 and 16 years at his home over the weekend, the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) said in a statement. It said statements have been recorded from five other children who were allegedly abused by the 32 year-old magician. His assistant had also been sexually abused, the NCPA said. "The man had attracted young boys under the pretext of teaching them magic tricks," the NCPA statement said, without naming the magician or his victims. Those convicted under child sex charges face mandatory jail terms ranging from 10 to 20 years. |
