Business in brief ESC appeal to industrialists The Energy Supply Committee (ESC) has called upon all industrialists to cooperate by using minimum electricity from the national grid. This comes in the wake of the prevailing drought in the country. As a short-term measure to maintain a sustainable power supply, the Committee has appealed to industrialists to use self-generating capacity on a priority basis. Secretary to the Ministry of Finance and Chairman of the ESC, Charitha Ratwatte, said an incentive allowance of Rs. 3 would be paid for each self-generated electricity unit, for general purpose. The government has also decided to pay an incentive allowances of Rs. 4 for each electricity unit generated for industrial purposes. LOLC boosts turnover The All Share Price Index and the Milanka Price Index dipped yesterday at the Colombo Stock Exchange. The All Share Price Index dropped to 1,216.20 points from 1,224.50 points while the Milanka Price Index dropped to 1,963.70 points. Turnover yesterday was boosted by LOLC's Rs.1.2 million shares being traded at Rs 72 price which was 53 % of the turnover. The turnover increased to Rs 170,168,548 from Rs 84,099,906 on Friday. The day's highest contributors were LOLC, Richard Pieris, Grain Elevators, CT Land and Lanka Ventures. Domestic purchases were Rs 1,164 million and foreign purchases Rs 52 million. Equity Two Ltd, Union Assurance, Vanik Incorp, CT Land and Lee Hedges were the top five gainers were the to five gainers. |
