John Keells Computer Services awarded ISO 9001:2000 certification

John Keells Computer Services (JKCS) was awarded the ISO 9001:2000 Certification for quality by SGS Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, which is affiliated to SGS Yarsley UK and accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).

D. Dharmadasa, Country Manager of SGS Lanka, presented the certificate to Sujiva Dewaraja, Head of IT Sector, John Keells Holdings Limited and CEO of JKCS, at the company's Colombo office recently.

The scope of this certification encompasses a wide area of the company's operations in functions such as marketing, analysis, design, development, installation and maintenance of bespoke software, customisation, installation and maintenance of packaged software, support and maintenance services for developed software as well as consulting services and resource outsourcing.

"JKCS has been certified for ISO 9001:1994 since August 2000, and this upgrade to ISO 9001:2000 reiterates the company's commitment to providing quality products and services to its customers worldwide", said Atula Herath, Manager Quality Assurance and Process Control.

JKCS adopted a process approach and revised and re-engineered the core processes such as a software development, marketing, support functions, resource management, and financial functions.

A team from the management sub committee took part in this process, under the guidance of the quality assurance department. Internal audits were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the processes.

The Quality system at JKCS aptly titled 'Qfocus', provides employees and systematic way of performing their duties in achieving customer satisfaction and continuous improvement.

It also provides management information for decision making and reviewing objectives. Herath said the "Qfocus", is more than a simple quality program of the company.

It is a business initiative of JKCS that helps and influences every aspect of the business to deliver customers' expectations, error free and with optimum price performance. We are committed to further this objective by embarking on several other quality initiatives during the current year", he said.
