SLMC supporters flocking around National Muslim Congress - Anver Ismail

Alaiyadivembu group correspondent

Because of the foolish acts of the present leader of SLMC and its members of politburo a large number of its supporters and followers are dissatisfied with its performance and now they are flocking around the National Muslim Congress (NMC) under the able leadership of A. L. M. Athaullah, the former Minister of Highways, said the former MP M. I. Anver Ismail at the Public Meeting held recently at Main Street, Sammanthurai.

Anver Ismail presided at the meeting where the former MPs H. M. Harees and National Leader of NUA Ferial Ashraff were present.

A. L. M. Athaullah, the National Leader of NMC said "I and my colleagues were ardent followers of late Minister Al-haj M. H. M. Ashraff and we never damage his image and aspirations under any circumstances. But Rauff Hakeem has immensely damaged the SLMC and its policies in all his activities and as a result, most of the Muslim people who were behind him are coming towards me, day by day.

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, did not do any harm to the Muslim community, she did everything for our benefit. Though our late leader of SLMC Al-Haj M. H. M. Ashraff had requested us not to join with UNP specifically under the leadership of Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe, we didn't heed his advice and joined the UNP during its previous two years regime and experienced the damage caused to the Muslims.

Therefore, it is the bounden duty of members of every Muslim party to think deeply at this hour of need and do the best for the betterment of our community by electing the UPFA at the upcoming Parliamentary election to enable it to form the next stable government.

Former MPs Ferial Ashraff, H. M. Harees and several others spoke.
