Nobody wanted an election. Because of the Janatha Vimukthi Peremuna pressure she was faced with the problem of what she should do, said Minister of Labour and Employment Mahinda Samarasinghe. He was addressing the meeting of Federation of Trade Unions in the Kalutara district. This meeting was held at the Town Hall premises, Kalutara, presided by W.T.P. Ariyaratne, Chairman Kalutara Urban Council. The Minister said further, now is the time when the attention of the common man should be focused to elect a stable government. At least 113 members should be elected from the UNF. Eventhough it is definite the UNF will win with this number the people of Kalutara district should be vigilant and attempt to achieve the goal of winning all the seats he said. Gradually people come torwards us and the power of the Alliance gradually to diminish. The Prime Minister has decided that the existing government should regain power. Even the Presidency will come to him in the near future, nobody can stop this, he stated. Lands Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said "I will continue to carry on all the duties expected of me without any hesitation. Everybody was of opinion that the UNF will be defeated when Parliament was dissolved. But today this opinion has changed and everyone is awakened to the fact that the UNF will come back.
