The progress achieved in the field of international trade during the last two years has enabled Sri Lanka to register a total export income of Rs. 5.13 billion in 2003 according to latest Central Bank Statistics the office of the Government spokesman said yesterday. This is in comparision to the Rs. 4.81 billion earned in 2001. The release said the export income development ratio which was minus 12.8 per cent in 2001 had increased to plus 9.2 per cent in 2003. The progress of international trade, price levels in the international market and the quantity of goods exported are the factors determining a country's total export income the release said. An increase in export income will result in an increase in a country's national income and an increase in the export goods production process will automatically increase the number of income earners through it, Central Bank analysts have pointed out, the release said. The export goods quantity index which was 112.4 2001 had increased to 116.2 in 2002 and 2003, the release added. According to Central Bank reports the agricultural produce export index which was 103.5 in 2003 while industrial products export index which was 116 in 2001 had increased to 118 in 2003. The minerals export index which was 80.6 in 2001 had increased to 91.5 in 2003. |
