Death of Lalith S. Maithripala :

President condoles

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga in a message of condolence on the death of veteran broadcaster and media personality Lalith S. Maithripala said the passing away of Mr. Maithripala was a great loss to the medium of broadcasting and the field of arts.

The President in her message of condolence said:

"I was deeply grieved on hearing of the death of veteran broadcaster Lalith S. Maithripala. Mr. Maithripala who was engaged in broadcasting for a period of nearly five decades was popular among listeners as a radio announcer.

He joined Radio Ceylon as a Sinhala relief announcer and became a lyricist, poet and also a film actor.

He was competent in Pali and Sanskrit languages. His guidance to amateur announcers was praiseworthy.

The death of Lalith S. Mairthripala who served as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation and the Public Performances Board for some time is a great loss to the medium of broadcasting and the field of arts.

I express my deep sorrow to his friends and relations including members of his family.

May Lalith S. Maithripala attain the supreme bliss of Nibbana.
