President's case against PM to be taken up in people's court - Rajitha Senaratne

Panadura group correspondent

Kalutara district United National Front candidate Lands Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said the case filed by the President Chandrika Bandaranaike against the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will be taken up for hearing in the People's Court on April 2 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

He was addressing the members and officials of the Panadura electorate UNP Balamandalaya held on Saturday at the Panadura town hall to welcome the Panadura electorates new chief organiser of the UNP and Kalutara UNP district candidate Sarath Ranawake.

Panadura Urban Council's Vice Chairman Vijith Priyantha de Silva, and the town councillors with the UNP supporters organised this meeting.

He said: "We are now filing objections against the plaint before the people during the election campaign. However the United National Party is expecting the people's verdict in favour of the respondents - the UNP. This is the opinion of the peoples in this country."

Minister Senaratne said president Chandrika Bandaranaike failed in her attempt to form a new government with the cooperation of certain parliamentarians of the UNP as no UNP parliamentarians joined the People's Alliance. Then the president formed an alliance with the JVP and dissolved Parliament. Now, the case is before the People's Court. The UNP is expecting a justifiable verdict from the people of this country.

He also said: 'During the last two years the UNP leader created a peaceful environment in the country so that each and everyone in our country irrespective their community could live in peace and harmony, but the President and the JVP placed road blocks across the path of the peace process introduced by the Prime Minister.

'The people of Panadura are lucky to have as their chief organiser, Sarath Ranawake.'

Kithsiri Kahatapitiya, the Opposition leader of the Western Provincial Council said during the tenure of office as the Opposition leader of the WPC he supported and cooperated with Reginold Cooray the Chief Minister to implement many development projects. In fact he introduced a project to donate chairs to all daham pasals in the Kalutara district. But the Kalutara district had been given stepmotherly treatment during the period of People's Alliance government. There was no massive development projects in the area. The Panadura electorate did not have a UNP Chief Organiser. The Prime Minister had appointed former Bulathsinhala MP as Panadura electorate's chief UNF organiser and given him nomination to face the General Election on April 2. Therefore the voters must elect him as the MP for Kalutara district.

'If a UNF government came into power and proposed development projects would be implemented,' Mr. Kahatapitiya said.

Sarath Ranawake the chief organiser said: 'There were many obstacles placed before the UNF government by the President and her followers, but nobody was able to challenge the government. Therefore President Kumaratunga took over three ministries and dissolved Parliament. The voters must consider all aspects and elect the UNF candidates to form the new government.

Vijith Priyantha de Silva, Vice Chairman of the Panadura, Ambrass A. Majeed the chairman of the Panadura Pradeshiya Sabha UNF candidates Mervyn J. Cooray and Senaka Samaranayake also spoke.
