"All subsidies had been cut down drastically. The cost of living had gone up. Life is a tremendous struggle for the poor. There is no other option than to do away with this government," Weerawansa who is also JVP Propaganda Secretary said. Weerawansa addressing a Freedom Alliance election rally at Pamunuwa, Maharagama recently said the ceasefire agreement between the government and the LTTE is totally illegal. "Anton Balasingham knew this and he insisted that the agreement must be signed by the President as she is the Commander-in-Chief of all Forces. He had appealed many times to correct this lapse. But Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and his delegate who participated at the peace talks ignored this. Even America had persuaded on this matter," he said. "We are for Peace. We need peace is all respects. But it must be justified for all ethnic groups. For thousand of years, Sri Lanka was one country. We must take every step to maintain that status. We must not allow any Government to divide Sri Lanka", he said. The North and East comprises one third of the motherland. Sixty per cent of the sea territory covers the North and East. The Prime Minister is trying to hand over this territory to Prabhakaran as he promised the LTTE this as the last election, Weerawansa said. It is clear that the Freedom Alliance will form a people's government on April 3 shattering all UNP powerhold, he said. |
