NWPC election on April 24

Seven hundred and twenty nine candidates will contest for 50 seats at the North Western Provincial Council election on April 24, the Elections Secretariat announced yesterday.

Altogether 20 political parties and seven independent groups have handed over their nominations to run for Kurunegala and Puttalam districts at the Wayamba polls by yesterday, the final day for accepting nominations.

According to the Elections Secretariat, 11 parties and one independent group will contest the Kurunegala district. Nomination lists of two parties, the United Muslim Party and the United Socialist Party have been rejected.

A total of nine political parties and six independent groups will be contesting for the Puttlam district.
