People misled by UNP that if Alliance wins war will resume:

I warn UNP not to mislead masses by their false propaganda - Professor Tissa Vitharana, LSSP

by Deraniyagala roving correspondent

The LSSP has entered into an agreement with the SLFP-JVP Alliance to carry forward the peace talks and seek permanent solution to the ethnic problem.

The people are being misled by the UNP that if the Alliance win the general election, they would resume the war. This warning notice is propagated to win the confidence of the minorities as the UNP is sure of defeat in the April hustings. "I warn the UNP not to mislead the masses by their false propaganda".

Prof. Tissa Vitharana said so addressing a meeting in Deraniyagala which preceded the opening of a LSSP office in Botota road which housed the Election Office of Y. G. Pathmasiri, the LSSP candidate for the Kegalle District, the former Minister of Lands, Irrigation and Agriculture in the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council.

Continuing the Professor said the UPFA, will assume office with a large majority. It is because of this fear that the UNP is worried and trying their best to win the election by throwing vast sums of money.

The capitalist society was financing them, as they too fear under a Freedom Alliance Government they cannot amass wealth by illegal means.

Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe had said at several of his meetings that the UPFA will resume the war if it is installed in office. May be he (Ranil) is planning a war against the LTTE. Has he forgotten the fact that racial in rest was perpetrated by the UNP?

The Professor asked. Therefore, it will be no surprise if they aim at anothor Black July, he said. In conclusion he appealed to voters of Kegalle to return all Freedom Alliance candidates to form a stable government.

Y. G. Pathmasiri said, voters of Deraniyagala are sensible people who cannot be misled by UNPers. They will definitely reject the UNP, he predicted.

He also said that no development is visible in Deraniyagala during the two-year rule of the UNP. Both villages and estates are in a neglected state. In contrast he as the PC Minister had allocated large funds to develop the electorate, he concluded.

A. G. Piyadasa Local President of the LSSP branch also spoke.
