News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Premier calls for strong mandate by Bharatha Malawaraarachchi Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday called on the people to extend a strong mandate to the United National Front to create an economy which could generate employment and usher in a prosperous future for the country. "We have to establish an economy which could create employment and increase the income level of the people. The UNF has comprehensive plans to improve the economy and we have already identified relevant sectors that need to be upgraded," added the Premier addressing several election rallies in Elpitiya, Ambalangoda and Balapitiya. Prime Minister Wickremesinghe disclosed that his Government has already prepared plans to strengthen the economy in the South. "We have focused our attention to further improve the tourism sector, specially in the Southern area and already several projects have been earmarked for implementation." he added. He said the largest tourism zone in the country will be set up in the Southern Province. "This zone will be created with special emphasis given to upgrading the Deduwa, Keselwagura and Maduganga areas which could be developed as popular tourist destinations." The Premier noted that with those plans, the tourism sector in the South will be upgraded to a greater extent creating thousands of direct and indirect employment. |
