Dhramadeepa has slided into chaos unlike in any other period in history while the disciplinary action relating to clergy and laymen have been mixed up. In this situation, young leaders should take over the country's administration, Ven. Omathyaye Punayasiri Thera said. The Thera made these remarks at a Bodhi Pooja at Bellanvila Raja Maha Viharaya organised by the Sri Lanka Nidahas Professionals' Association to invoke blessings on the Freedom Alliance candidates contesting from Colombo district. "As clergy we should extend our support to young leaders towards their attempts to develop the country. Steps have to be taken to safeguard Buddhism in a more prudent manner. Various kinds of conspiracies are being implemented to destroy Buddhism," he said. The Thera said at present, state sponsorship of Buddhist Sacred Places have slightly decreased. Therefore, when the Freedom Alliance assumes office, they should take immediate measures to safeguard Buddhism, he added. Meanwhile utmost priority should be given to safeguard the country. If the leaders are determined to govern the country on this basis, Buddhism which has 2500 years' history will be safeguarded further, the Ven. Thera said. |
