Premier highlights child care

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe visited the Child Development Centre in the Pallegoda Group Rubber and Palm oil Plantation in Galle district on Thursday, states a press release from the Office of the Government Spokesman.

The centre's 24 children were thrilled and welcomed the guest.

The Prime Minister who dropped in for a surprise whistle stop visit, was charmed with the children's work and paintings. He congratulated staff and parents for their support of the outstanding centre supported by the Plantation Human Development Trust (PHDT).

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe joined an informal gathering of parents, the Pallegoda group management and PHDT representatives. He was told that the Pallegoda Child Development Centre had attained first place among such centres islandwide. With more mothers seeking employment, the Child Development Centre is becoming a vital part of plantation life.

The Prime Minister commented after the meeting:.

"This centre stands out as an example of the success of community development."

Parents welcomed the Prime Minister on his visit to the Child Development Centre. Regional Director (Galle) of the PHDT J. W. Y. K. de Silva said "the PHDT provides equipment, aid for maintenance and training to creche attendants while offering guidance to Child Development Centres.
