Two critically wounded in UNP attack

Two people were critically injured when a group of UNP activists allegedly attacked supporters of the United People's Freedom Front Kegalle district candidate Ranjith Siyabalapitiya. Four suspects including a security officer of the former UNF MP Premadasa Champika were taken into custody in connection with the attack at Veralapathana, Rambukkana.

Rupavahini news bulletin quoted its correspondent as saying the two victims had suffered gun shots and undergone surgery at the Kegalle hospital last afternoon.

Kegalle SSP Wilfred Mahanayake said a special police team had been deployed to arrest Rabukkana Pradeshiya Sabha chairman, who is one of the suspects.
