Ratnam champs in a 'shootout' Ratnam SC the soccer giants from Kotahena trounced the high riding Blue Stars SC from Kalutara 5 goals to 3 in a penalty shootout to carry away the Dialog Champion of Champions Trophy on Sunday at the Sugatadasa Stadium. Blue Stars got off to a flying start ahead in the 22nd minute through a goal from M. Fowzam and held on to the lead until the lemons. Ratnam kept on attacking their opponents expecting the equaliser. Ten minutes before the final whistle it was former national star Mohamed Amanulla who penetrated the defence to score the equaliser for Ratnam SC. The match ended as a one all draw, and the penalty shootout was introduced. Kotahena lads kicked four goals, while Kalutara could manage only 2 goals. This gave the victory for Ratnam 5-3. The winners were awarded the Dialog Champions Trophy and Rs. 250,000 while second placed Blue Stars SC received Rs. 100,000. Earlier the game for the third place saw Negombo Youth SC defeat Air Force also in a penalty shootout 5 goal to four. This game too ended in a 2 all drow after a hectic battle. Negombo SC kicked three goals during the penalty shootout and Air Force could muster only 2 goals. Nishantha Wickrama, Marketing Manager Dialog GSM was the chief guest and gave away the award. Ravi Karunanayake former MP was the guest of honour. |
