Eshan and Thakshila win swim titles by Leslie Fernando Eshan Fernando and Thakshila Daluwatta both from Panadura Aquatic Club won the men's and women's events at the Annual Fishtail Aquatic Club 2 km sea swim held at the Mutwal Beach on Sunday. The event was conducted by the Fishtale AC in connection with the clubs 57 anniversary and sponsored by Commercial Bank of Ceylon, Mutwal Branch and Modera-Mattakkuliya Lions Club. In the men's Eshan, the 14 year old student from S. Thomas' College finished first with a time of 44 minus 37:13 sec. Ranga Sameera also from Panadura AC in second 44:37:13 secs. P. G. Anisha Kumara of Kularatne MV, Ambalangoda third 45:02:66 sec. A. N. Dissanayake of Sri Lanka Navy fourth 45:26:20 secs and N. W. Nalin Dharshaka of Kularatne MV fifth 49:7:22 secs. The experienced womens long distance swimmer Thakshila Daluwatte who won the 2003 Sri Lanka Navy conducted 2 mile sea swim in Trincomalee proved her class to win the women's event returning a time of 48 minutes 41:94 secs. Thilini Perera (56:38:54 secs) and Dilini Perera (1:06:02 secs) both from Ananda Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo took the second and third places. Iroshani Kaushalaya (1:06:42 secs) and Kalpani Nandasena (1:07:38 secs) from Fishtail Aquatic Club did well to come in fourth and fifth respectively. Both Eshan and Thakshila were presented the Fishtail Aquatic Club Challenge Trophy. Twin sisters Dilini Perera and Thilini Perera (Ananda BV, Colombo) (13 years) were declared as youngest swimmers. G. G. Siriwardena of Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Club (65 years) was the oldest swimmer meanwhile R. Jagath Prasanna was the outstanding swimmer from Fishtail AC. All received special awards. Lion Dr. Rohan Perera, District Governor 306B was the chief guest while J. H. Jeganathan, Manager Commercial Bank Mutwal Branch was the guest of honour. |
