Former Minister and Kegalle District MP, Athauda Seneviratne addressing an SLFP meeting at Ruwanwella office sounded a warning to Tamil speaking people in Kegalle District, in particulaar Estate workers not to be misled by the UNP propaganda that the JVP is a communal party and would harm Tamils after the elections. The minorities are aware that its leader has already admitted some of their mistakes in the past and apologised to the people for same. It is no more a terrorist organisation as alleged by UNPers and their allies. They have joined the main stream of politics. The UNP propagates such misleading stories, realising the fact that they would be drowned in the elections and the alliance would emerge victorious. He said in the past two years the UNP government had cheated both Sinhalese and minorities. Even the LTTE has now lost confidence in them, although the UNF catered to the wellbeing of the Tigers and not the down trodden Estate Tamils. It was the PA, Seneviratne said that offered land and modern houses to estate workers which stalled in the last two years. Even in the distribution of free roofing sheets they were given to affluent UNPers, thus neglecting estate workers. The Alliance, where installed in power, Seneviratne assured will give better and streamlined facilities to all sections of people and resolve the ethnic problem to the satisfaction of all communities and would proceed with peace talks for this purpose. The LTTE, he said, had already announced that it was prepared to continue peace negotiation, with any government and not in particular with the UNP, Seneviratne recalled. |
