Peiris' recent challenge to the Freedom Alliance to show the means of creating three million job opportunities needed for the next 10 years stated that the UNF Government's solution for this problem is the "Regaining Sri Lanka" programme which even by now has devoured a handsome quantum of our national assets including the Sri Paada and Sinharaja Forests while plundering state owned ventures for a song for the benefit of party stooges. The Ranil Wickremesinghe Government came into power in 2001 by deceiving the young generation with false promises. They promised gold chains, bracelets, Rs. 2,000 allowance pending employment, and doles of Rs. 1,500 in order to create an "Athamita Saru"(financially well off) society. In contrast to these promises, during the last two years the UNF Government paved the way to close down hundreds of factories, retrenched over 50,000 employees, encouraged compulsory retirement and repressed the unemployed graduates mercilessly, pointed out the press release. The masses having fully recognized the crocodile tears of the kind of Professor G.L.Peiris have rejected the corrupt regime which has no moral right to challenge the development programme of the United People's Freedom Alliance, the press release stated. The progressive masses which form the majority of our population have reposed faith in the Freedom Alliance which is armed with a scientific programme to take the country in the proper direction. The Freedom Alliance has a definite programme to find employment to 30,000 unemployed graduates and 25,000 employment opportunities to young men and women of other categories. We have already given this pledge. The masses cannot be fooled any longer.UNP is well advised not to throw stones from inside glass houses, warned Vijith Soysa in his press release yesterday. |
