Sigiriya group correspondent It is through Dhamma education the increasing crime waves could be controlled. Teachers of Dhamma schools render yeoman service to the country. If not for their source, our children would not have achieved the amount of excellence. I find the children of Dhamma schools do not get involved in nefarious activities, like to those who haven't had Daham education, said the Governor of the Central Province Monty Gopallawa. He was addressing a workshop of Dhamma School teachers, held at Wilgamuwa Purana Viharaya in Laggala, Pallegama. In the past, education was an exclusive function of the temples. Later Pirivena education undertook the responsibility. After converting the greatest pirivenas of Sri Lanka Vidyodhaya and Vidyalankara into Universities on expedient reasons, discipline in the country began to degrade. Now the few pirivenas, we have just lagging behind with meagre assistance of the Government, which is hardly sufficient to manage. I do not make any allegation against anyone for this state of affairs. But I appeal to the Buddhist population to look into this state of affairs. Teachers of the Daham school are left along. Not a single cent is paid nor their qualifications and experience are considered when state recruitments are made. The Sasanarakshaka Bala Mandalaya is only a name - but no sufficient funds has been allocated. |
