'Late Thera - a pious and well disciplined monk'

The late Ven. Kosgama Mahanama Thera was a pious, compassionate and well-disciplined monk who won the hearts of the people, said the Ven. Maditiyawala Vijitasena Thera, Anunayaka of Ramanna Maha Nikaya and principal of Sarasvathi Pirivena, Balagalla at the cremation of the ven. Kosgama Mahanama Thera of Sri Vijayarama temple Manikkawatta, held at Manikkawatta Avissawella.

He said that he was an erudite scholar in Dhamma, whose life was dedicated to the propagation of Buddhism. He produced a large number of students who were capable of bearing any responsibility to uplift the life style of Buddhists.

He was endowed with all the qualities necessary for a Buddhist priest.

The ven Mahopadya Werahera Ariyawansa, Adhikarana Sangha Nayaka Thera said that the late Thera led a simple life. He was well disciplined and dedicated to the service of the Buddha Sasana.

He said that he did a silent service and never went after popularity.

The condolence message sent by the President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga was read by Vijayamuni Soysa, Deputy Chairman of the WPC and the condolence message sent by the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was read by Jayanta Ketagoda, Ex-MP Colombo District.

Minister Gamini Lokuge, member of the Western Provincial Council, member of the Seetavakapura UC and the Chairman K. D. P. Arsakularatne also participated. The welcome speech was delivered by the Ven. Dangalle Mangala Thera.
