News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Missions abroad are power-houses - Tyronne Fernando Sri Lanka Missions abroad which once performed only limited tasks as a routine, have now been transformed into power-houses of action. They have been given clearly defined objectives and guidelines and are now fully focused on identifying and securing opportunities for the promotion of trade, tourism and investment, said Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando speaking at the launch of the CD and booklet 'Central Region - Investor's Paradise' at the BMICH recently, attended by a large number of diplomats and investors, commended Minister Tissa Attanayake for his initiative in formulating a broadbased investor prospectus for the development of the Central Region. Fernando said, Ministry will support all initiatives by the development regions of Sri Lanka to promote and realise their investment potential. Fernando is also Chairman of the Cabinet Sub Committee on Overseas Business Promotion which is charged with responsibility, among other things, to promote foreign investment through Sri Lanka's Missions abroad. The committee comprises Ministers of Economic Affairs, Industries, Plantation, Tourism, Commerce etc. He said the creation of five economic development regions, an initiative of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is intended to widen and strengthen the development process throughout the country. Regional Development Ministries and regional offices of the Board of Investment (BOI) and the Regional Economic Development Commissions have been established to accelerate and maximise the potential of each region. The Sri Lanka missions abroad will provide the widest possible publicity to the investment opportunities in Central Region on which a CD and a booklet have been launched. Minister of Enterprise Development, Industrial Policy and Investment Promotion Prof. G. L. Peiris and Minister of Central Region Development, Tissa Attanayake also addressed the gathering. |
