Ulterior motive in PM’s attempt to frighten people - Anura Bandaranaike

There is a devious motive behind UNP Leader Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's attempt to frighten people that there will be a return to war if the UNP was not brought into power at the next General Election, states Presidential Senior Advisor Anura Bandaranaike.

Bandaranaike further states that in the face of the LTTE's reiteration that it will not go back to war under any circumstances, the announcements by the Premier sounds as if he has undertaken the contract of advising the LTTE on warfare.

Issuing a media release in this connection yesterday, Anura Bandaranaike stated that senior UNP leaders' pronouncements these days to say that the Sinhala New Year will be celebrated under the Presidency of Ranil Wickremesinghe, provoke anxiety and alarm among the masses.

He said that the present President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga's term of office lasts another two and half years is a fact known even to a child of this country.

Being awe struck by the imminent defeat at the hands of the United People's Freedom Alliance, the UNP is quiet manifestly going ahead with its usual cunning political culture. The intelligent voters of this country are patiently rallying round the UPFA today to despise and reject this political culture. It is the misfortune of the UNP that they do not understand this reality, the media release said. In his media release, Anura expressed his confidence in the people's will and courage to defeat the conspiracy of the UNP leadership.

The very people who voted the UNP in to power last time, are completely frustrated about the UNP rule during the past two years. They hate the UNP leadership who played to the tune of a handful of business tycoons while disregarding the aspirations of the masses and not caring them for two pence. People will teach the UNP the bitter lesson it has not learnt in their entire history, at the upcoming General Election, stated Anura in his media release yesterday.
