Planters commend Tea Commissioner The Planters' Association of Ceylon has commended the Tea Commissioner and other officials of the Sri Lanka Tea Board for their recent efforts in preventing the export of substandard teas classified as unfit for human consumption. Whilst it is disturbing to note the large volume of such teas, which had been exported undetected, it is heartening to note that under the direction of the Chairman of the Tea Board, deterrent action is now being taken to prevent the image of Ceylon Tea from being tarnished in the eyes of the world. The Association is alarmed by the reported incidents of widespread malpractices and irregularities connected with the trading of illegal teas and looks to the Tea Board to arrest this trend as well which will redound to the benefit of not only the producers but also to the entire tea industry. Whilst producers have taken whatever measures possible to reduce malpractices at estate level, the Association appeals to all others involved in the Trade, i.e., Transporters, Warehousemen, Brokers and Buyers/Exporters to extend their fullest co-operation to the Sri Lanka Tea Board to eradicate this menace which is of serious concern to the tea industry. |
