EDB rents out 20,000 sq.ft. premises at Spencer Plaza : Top Lankan entrepreneurs to set up trade stall in Tamil Nadu by Lionel Yodhasinghe Seventeen leading Sri Lankan entrepreneurs will set up a permanent trade stall in Tamil Nadu's biggest shopping mall of the business district, Spencer Plaza, Mount Road, Chennai showcasing their products from today. The Export Development Board (EDB), organiser of this venture for Sri Lankan businessmen expect to accommodate more potential entrepreneurs in the premises as this would be an ideal opportunity for Sri Lankans to tap the huge Indian markets. Fifty-thousand visit Spencer Plaza on weekends and 15,000 daily. The EDB embarked on this project after a survey done by the Indian Market Research Bureau, which recommended the products and the location, an EDB spokesman said. EDB will set up its office at this premises to facilitate Sri Lankan businessmen coordinating services and identifying new products which can be introduced to the market in the future. The EDB rents out 20,000 sq.ft. premises at the Spencer Plaza. To tap such other large markets in India, this project will be expanded to other major cities in India. On the performance of this pilot project, similar trade centres will be set up in business hubs of New Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai, he said. Tamil Nadu Government's Education Minister S. Semmalai will be the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the Sri Lanka Trade Centre. Former Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris will be guest of honour. EDB Chairman Ratna Sivaratnam, Sri Lanka's Ambassador in India Mangala Moonesinghe and several officials will participate. |
