Lanka Truth Website states Ranil warns Rajitha for talking of defeat

by Ariyaratne Ganegoda

The Lanka Truth web site reported that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe summoned Lands Minister Rajitha Senaratne to Temple Trees and warned him against talking of defeat at the April General Election.

This follows publicity given by the media to a statement by Senaratne at a recent media briefing at the Gramodaya Centre, saying that if by chance the UNF were to lose this time, it will gain victory at the next general election.

The media briefing was attended by Power and Energy Minister Karu Jayasuriya and UNP Chairman Malik Samarawickrema.

Meanwhile, work connected with the selection of UNF candidates for the general election has almost been completed, UNP media spokesman and Galle District Organiser Gayantha Karunatilleke said.

He told the Daily News that on the Prime Minister's advice a special intellectual unit has been entrusted with the task of formulating the UNP Election Manifesto.

Arrangements have been made to hand over the preparation of electioneering campaign on electoral and district levels, to a specialist agency as certain drawbacks were observed in the UNP media unit during the recent past, Karunatilleke said.
