IGP, polls chief told to discuss measures for incident free election

by Sarath Malalasekera

The Police Commission headed by President's Counsel Ranjit Abeysuriya has proposed that Inspector General of Police Indra de Silva and Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake meet to discuss measures to ensure an orderly, free and fair election to be held on April 2.

The IGP yesterday told the Daily News that it was an excellent suggestion by the Police Commission to discuss matters relating to the elections along with the Elections Commissioner to take measures to hold an incident free, fair election.

The IGP instructed his senior men to be firm in their decisions during the election period and arrest all persons who breach law and order, irrespective of their positions.

The IGP directed DIG Gamini Navaratne and Senior Superintendents of all Divisions regarding security measures to be taken during and after the election.

All instructions from the IGP to countrywide police stations will be communicated through the main Communication Centre at Mirihana.
