Mangala for Matara, not Colombo

Former MP Mangala Samaraweera yesterday quashed rumours that he was planning to contest the upcoming elections as a candidate representing the Colombo District.

He said the UNP is spreading rumours that he would be forwarding his candidature for the Freedom Alliance from the Colombo District.

"I have no intention to shift from my ancestral base in Matara where my father did politics for 50 years," he said.

"I myself represented Matara for last 15 years in Parliament and I am grateful to my voters in Matara for returning me as MP continuously ever since I entered the electoral fray.

I appeal to them not to get deceived by the rumours spread by the UNP which is panicking at the prospect of defeat," he added.
