by Anura Maitipe The Secretary General of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, the premier business forum in this country, has made a positive response towards the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the SLFP and the JVP. The Memorandum of Understanding signed between the SLFP and the JVP is only a political affiliation and there is no reason to panic, Secretary General of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Prema Cooray told the Daily News. He said: "From a private sector viewpoint, if the Alliance can instil good governance, maintain law and order and rid all forms of bribery and corruption then we would be satisfied". Vice President of the Tourist Hotels Association of Sri Lanka, Hiran Cooray said tourism was completely unaffected by this latest political development because tourists are not concerned about internal politics of Sri Lanka. Whether an Alliance is formed by the JVP and SLFP or SLFP and UNP is immaterial for them. They are only concerned about stability and safety. Azmi Thasim, Director General of the Hambantota Regional Chamber of Commerce said Southern businessmen did not fear the new Alliance as they were well accustomed to the presence of the JVP in the region. |
