CCC Under 16 team win Hewlett Packard Trophy in Bangalore

CCC School of Cricket Under 16 and Under 14 cricketers returned to the Island last week, after a successful two weeks tour of Bangalore, India.

The Under 16 team did well to win the Hewlett Packard Tournament organised by Imtiaz Ahamed Cricket Academy, while the Under 14 team lost in the semi-final. Under 16 team beat the more fancied, Jain International Residential School in the final played at the picturesque home ground of the losers.

In the preliminary round, CCC U-16 team lost both matches to JIRS team, but turned tables to beat them by six wickets in the prestigious final played before a capacity crowd. In the other matches, CCC Under 16 team also beat Frank Anthony Public School twice, but lost to Imtiaz Ahamed Cricket Academy by three runs in a thriller.

Under 14 team, did well to beat I.A. Cricket Academy twice, and Frank Anthony Public School once, but lost to Jain International Residential School, once in the Preliminary Round, and again in the Semi-Final.

At the Award Ceremony, after the two finals, high praise was made of the CCC Cricketers for the batting, fielding, and the disciplined conduct of the players. Ashan Subasinghe (U-16) and Nilshan Perera U-14, were adjudged the Best Batsmen of the Tournament in each Group. Subasinghe scored one unbeaten century and three half-centuries in six innings while Perera had one unbeaten century and 96 among his four innings.

Among the other award winners were U-16: Chamath Gunaratne, (century batting), Sashi Dhanushka (bowling), Sujit Ratnayake (Batting), Hasitha Ruwankumara (Man of the Final).

U-14: Devinda Fernando (batting and wicket-keeping), Dilshan Manamperi (bowing), Viran Perera (bowling), Shyamnaz Mohamed (all-rounder), Stanroy Gonsal and Yasitha Bandara (bowling).

According to Nelson Mendis, Manager and Head Coach, CCC Cricketers were exposed to maintain very high standard of competition, with several opposing players were representatives of Karnataka State U-19 and U-17 players from Bangalore. All matches were played on very good turf wickets with the grounds at Jain International Residential School being the most beautiful and possessing the best track. The boys gained a lot of experience during the tour which would stand them in good stead in the future.
