Assistance to villagers in Maha Kochchikudiya

Wadduwa special correspondent

Sgt. D. R. Wijepala of Kalutara North Police, who served at Vavuniya police station during the period of the war against LTTE terrorists had visited Maha Kochchikudiya in Vavuniya police area where the people live in fear due to war with no proper food, clothing and shelter for them to live.

The villagers lived in boundary area with constant fear of attack by the LTTE.

Having realized the pathetic condition of villagers, who live in abject poverty he had collected from the well-wishers flanked by the Grama Niladhari Sunil Fernando of Kalutara South, school equipment food items and other necessities for the villagers and donated such items. The school equipment included Dhamma books, uniforms and the National dress for boys and girls.

The school equipment was donated to 181 children of Maha Kochchikudi village.

The Nayaka Thera of the village temple at Kochchikudiya Ven. Dhammananda Thera said that the villagers live in fear and it is a meritorious deed to donate books and school equipment to the children as the main occupation of the people is paddy-cultivation, and it is the only source of income.
