by Sandasen Marasinghe Mahinda Priyashantha Godage alias Bada Mahinda a key witness in the Thilanga Sumathipala case was produced before Colombo High Court Judge Sarath Ambepitiya in connection with another case against him, under tight security, yesterday. He has been indicted on five counts by the Attorney General including the murder of Bulathsinghalage Somakeerthi Upali Cooray in Pitakotte on July 12, 1998, attempting to murder Ravindranath Seneviratne and unlawful assembly in Pitakotte with the intention of committing murder. The trial was postponed for May 7, since the first witness Ravindranath Seneviratne was not produced before Court, yesterday. The Judge thereafter instructed prison officers to produce the accused before Court under tight security. In a letter sent by the OIC, Welikada Police has stated that noone was found under the name of Ravindranatha Seneviratne at Weediya Bandara Mawatha, Ethulkotte although warrants had been issued. The Judge ordered the Prison Authority to provide the accused with maximum security while at the prison and in bringing him to court. The Judge further ordered the Welikada Police OIC to be present before the Court with the Warrant report. Senior State Counsel Lakmali Karunanayake appeared for the Attorney General. |
